Present your visualization research at vizNET 2008

Call for Video

vizNET 2008 encourages attendees to submit a short video clip for inclusion in one of the early presentation sessions. We are very keen for attendees to have the opportunity to fully participate during the event. Whilst some people may prefer to show off some of their work we also recognise that some attendees may be more interested in highlighting a problem they are trying to solve and which they would like to share with others. For instance you may have a particularly challenging data set with no immediately obvious means of teasing out important features of the underlying data set properties. By bringing examples of such challenges to vizNET 2008 it is highly likely that other people attending the vizNET event will be able to suggest possible ways of solving the problems.

A short video can illustrate the sort of visualization work people are engaged with and help explain the key points much better than a static poster. vizNET 2008 is very much concerned with broadening out and increasing opportunities for networking.

Obviously if you do not wish to submit a video then that is no problem. We simply wanted to provide the opportunity to those that do.

Participants are invited to submit a 2-3 minute video of their work.

3min max clips; silent videos with written description to be submitted.
(An exception can be made where sound is procedurally related to the visualization.)

We are planning on 45 minutes of (approximately 20 selected videos ) videos being showcased at the beginning of the event, immediately followed by an opportunity for participants to introduce themselves and their reasons for attending. An A4 colour flyer of visual material and with video abstract, short biography, institutional affiliation, and for those interested in collaboration, what the participant can offer and what they are looking for, will be included in the delegate pack.

For a number of showcased videos we would like to exhibit these at future vizNET events and on the vizNET website (subject to your agreement), giving much wider dissemination of your work to the vizNET community.

What format do we require?

We would prefer videos to be encoded using H.264 or MPEG-2 format. However, if your video plays with VLC, we can probably read it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

How do I submit the video?

Once registered, a submission can be made by logging into our conference management system and selecting "Submit Contribution". Please ensure you select video for type of submission.

How do I submit the A4 colour flyer, abstract and other details for printing?
You use the same submission code as for the video itself. A template will be provided for the A4 flyer.

Deadline: 25 April 2008
